Editing #2

WHOO HOO we are done with filming! Emily and I went to Allis house to complete the editing of the video. We added a nice intro just like how the intro is to Full House combined with the intro from Keeping up with the Kardashians. We added in all the footage and preformed the basic cropping and editing of each clip. We added fun voice effects and some zoom in clips when we thought it was needed. We added all the fun sound effects and when there were cuss words Alli added in a bark instead of a bleep to make it different than other shows. When putting he whole video together it took a lot of time and work but  overall j am pretty proud of my project and I am so proud of the way it turned out. I hope our Honors Humanities class enjoys the video as well. I'm luck to have gotten the chance to be with a fun talented group. Meeting #3 pt.2

In Episode 3 we included a fun scene called "Cooking with Claudius" his mini show showed how Claudius created his poisonous concoction. It was a funny and informational side show. The scene where everyone dies was the most important and we really tried to focus on killing people in the right order. First Gertrude sips the mysterious drink and is poisoned. Laertes then cuts Hamlet. Hamlet takes the swipe and stabs Laertes who quickly dies. Hamlet then makes Claudius drink the poison and stabs him with the poison sword. In the end because he sword was poisoned as well Hamlet dies from the cut. Finally Horatio walks into the scene to see all of them dead and whispers "goodnight sweet prince" which ends our great production of Holding Up with Hamlet. It was a great show and I am excited to put it all together in a single video.

Meeting #3

In order to complete our project on time we had to meet over break. All of us except Shane Yirak were able to attend. Shane was on vacation for the whole week and we decided that we would just have to replace him in order to complete the project. When finding a replacement it wasn't hard because Taylor's dad was home and he offered to help us with anything we needed. So Shane ages in our film.. Continuing on with our story the 3rd episode is probably the most important. The plot of poisoning Hamlet and the dual between Hamlet and Laertes unfolds. Ophelia is dead by now so she is not a part of the video anymore but I still came to make sure everything is running smoothly and going well. I really believe that as actors we have really progressed. When watching the first episode and then filming the 3rd you can really see the improvement in our acting and filming techniques. I am very excited to see the whole video put together .

Editing #1

I met up with Alli at her house to check up on how the video editing was working out. She showed me the first episode that she had edited and we watched it twice. The first time I watched it for enjoyment and the second time I looked at everything more critically to see what needed to be corrected. Alli uses IMovie on her computer and it works wonders. She was able to put a marble background onto the footage of the interviews. It makes the video more elegant and more like the Kardashians. We also picked backround music and special effects for specific scenes. I never really noticed how much music can change what the audience thinks and to enhance the audiences viewing experience. For example when Hamlet is talking to himself and Polonius is behind a curtain trying to figure out why Hamlet is acting so strange, you can see Polonius' feet. When the camera shifts from Hamlet to the feet the music changes into a mysterious tone which really adds to the whole idea that Polonius is spying on Hamlet. This change in music also adds to the similarities of our Hamlet interpretation and the reality show Keeping up with the Kardashians.

Meeting #2 pt.2

Episode 2 was a very important part of our video because Hamlet killed Polonius. This was important for me because this is my breaking point and the reason I go crazy as Ophelia's character. So when creating Ophelia's death I wore ragged clothes as if I had given up on life. I then sand a song for my dad and skipped away. I was distracted by some flowers and when attempting to reach the flowers I fell into Taylor's pool and drowned. It was a great scene that I had to focus because in had one chance to get it right. Funny thing about our deaths is that whenever someone dies in our show we play the same song and I don't want to spoil the laughter for you so when you watch the video I hope you enjoy it. In this episode we held a funeral first for Polonius and later for Ophelia. Alli did a great job in filming the funerals for when the footage is added into the show the whole event is sad and can pull emotions of pity.

Meeting #2

We have struggled to find out that the bigger the group the harder it is. For example, reserving a day in advance for everyone to meet and making sure ever person knows what is going on is a great challenge. We skipped a full week because there were always a few people unable to come and film on a given day so we had to push the dates back until we were all able to attend. When we finally met up we began to film the next episode. The second episode included scenes of Hamlets plan to uncover the secrets Claudius is keeping. In the story Hamlet put on a play to see if Claudius reacts. When we were thinking of how to create this scene we began to connect the story of Hamlet to the movie The Lion King. This movie was perfect because Scar kills his brother Mufasa in order to become king. So we played the movie in our project and it worked out well.

Meeting #1 pt.2

Continuing from the last blog, the characters are all introduced in the first episode. The first episode also shows the scenes where Hamlet meets the ghost of his father who tells Hamlet that he must get revenge on Claudius because Claudius Killed him to become king. it then goes into the scenes where everyone is trying to figure out what is bothering Hamlet and why he is acting so strangely. Everyone assumes that he is in love which excites Ophelia. We even included a funny flash back of Ophelia and Hamlet on the playground. In our interpretation some people wanted to use "inappropriate language" as in cuss words. we decided that it would be okay to use such language for a number of reasons. 1. Many reality shows use such language. 2. Using this language can forcefully portray our characters emotions. 3. In some cases the use of this language in presentations makes the presentation more enjoyable and more likely for others to remember the presentation. So we have reason to believe that our use of these words are justified by good reason.

Meeting #1

we had our first meeting and it was at about 8 so it was dark outside. This was perfect because we were able to go outside and film the ghost scene in Taylor's driveway. We then moved indoors to film. We decided to break up Hamlet into 3 episodes. the first episode which we filmed today was setting up the story and showing all the relationships with each character. We filmed Hamlet coming home after his fathers death and finding his mother about to be married to his uncle... what a family! A reality show aspect of our video is that in between the footage of the story line we will be inserting quick little interviews. in these interviews a character is able to tell the camera their innermost feelings and thoughts to show the audience but not necessarily the other characters. Which presents the effect that the audience knows something the other characters don't. I was also introduced in this scene as a girl who loves Hamlet but cannot have him. One reason being that he is cut out of the line of succession and another being that Hamlet is so busy exacting his revenge on his uncle that he doesn't have time for a relationship with Ophelia.

Structure

Emily has already started the outline of our script. She is writing the guidelines and recalling the order of events so when we all get together and film we will be able to just follow the outline and be able to put our own twist into our characters. In our interpretation of Hamlet Emily is Hamlet, Taylor is Claudius and Dead King Hamlet, Sophia is Polonius, Frances is Horatio, Shane is Laertes and I am Ophelia. Alli is filming us and she also offered to edit all the video footage. I am really excited to be Ophelia mostly because I'm excited to die. Ophelias brother is Laertes and her dad it Polonius. When Polonius is killed Ophelia is overwhelmed with emotions and goes crazy. She ends up drowning and it is still a mystery of whether she died or committed suicide. We plan to film everything at Taylor Kallmann's house because it is the biggest and fanciest house out of our group.

Ideas

I am really excited to know that I will soon be a part of an untestable group with my friends. I have been talking with Emily Wurst, Alli Miller, Taylor Kallman Sophia and Frances Agrusa,  Anna Lozado and Shane Yirak. Emily and Alli came up with the idea to recreate Hamlet through a reality show such as Keeping up with the Kardashians. They both are obsessed with the Kardashians and were very excited to use their knowledge of the reality show to incorporate it into our video. I am sure that with this rag-tag team of misfits that we will be able to produce a comical interpretation of Shakespheres Hamlet.
